First monk, very impressed.
Hello all. First a bit about me. I started out as W/Mo, still have that char. I also run an E/me, that's my main char atm. I've rolled Monks before, but usually i made them with the full intention of turning the into 55 farmers. Every time, though, I got tired of them and deleted them. Well, I decided to give monks one more go, only this time take my time, play the game right, and turn him into a farmer later. And I must say that I am very, very impressed with the depth of the monks. Currently, I am level 8 in Nightfall (another mistake I made with the 55 failures was always making them in Factions, for faster leveling) and am running a simple Prot monk build with Dunkoro as my healer and Koss as my main damage dealer. I've never dabbled too much with Protection prayers, just Protective spirit on my 55 terramonk ele, but hot d***. I'm using life bond on both my heroes, and Shielding hands/Shield of Absorption on myself, and all i see is 0's popping up.
I know it's not the best build, but with my limited budget, here's what I have so far skill wise:
[skill]Shielding Hands[/skill][skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill][skill]Reversal of Fortune[/skill][skill]Mend Ailment[/skill][skill]Blessed Signet[/skill][skill]Signet of Devotion[/skill][skill]Life Bond[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill]
I sometimes switch out [skill]Mend Ailment[/skill] for [skill]Remove Hex[/skill] and [skill]Rebirth[/skill] for [skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill].
Protection Prayers 9+1
Divine Favor 1
I'm very much looking forward to playing with my monk more, especially since i haven't either died yet or have had to rez yet. Any suggestions or tips for playing monk are greatly appreciated

Well it's nice to see you're enjoying monks, they can be a very satisfying class to play. My only suggestion would be to not use Dunkoro as a healer; take a healer hench and practice improving your protting ability. This won't matter much at the moment, but once you're further in you'll miss that hero space...more hero damage dealers is good and if you are a resonable monk, Mhenlo should suffice ^^

It is more effective to spec some into healing prayers. However, if you plan on a full prot monk, perhaps you could try a bonder? It becomes very effective with the right group, though it's a bit too much prot for now. lol
For your skill bar....I'd suggest [Dismiss Condition] over [Mend Ailment].
I never bring a rez when I H/H, so you could get away with switching [Rebirth] for a hex removal for now. Especially since you're still in the beginning areas.
I highly suggest though, that you bring a big prot. [Protective Spirit] works very well.
I bring [Aegis] everywhere I go. Slap it on Dunk or Tahl, coordinate cast times, and you'll be amazed at how much damage is mitigated.
I would definitely suggest putting more points into Divine Favor. It's where your energy management and only heal is. Don't underestimate the healing bonus either.

These are my personal preferences for bars, they work with just about any team and are extremely flexible with your preferences.
[skill]patient spirit[/skill][skill]dismiss condition[/skill][skill]word of healing[/skill][skill]cure hex[/skill][skill]protective spirit[/skill][skill]shield of absorption[/skill][skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill][skill]aegis[/skill]
[skill]reversal of fortune[/skill][skill]dismiss condition[/skill][skill]zealous benediction[/skill][skill]holy veil[/skill][skill]protective spirit[/skill][skill]shield of absorption[/skill][skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill][skill]aegis[/skill]
For something different I run blessed light, it's extremely efficient when you use it right, but I wouldn't recommend running it in PuGs.
[skill]reversal of fortune[/skill][skill]dismiss condition[/skill][skill]blessed light[/skill][skill]shielding hands[/skill][skill]spirit bond[/skill][skill]heaven's delight[/skill][skill]divine healing[/skill][skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill]
For running Healer's Boon in HM missions and elite areas I usually run this.
[skill]healer's boon[/skill][skill]seed of life[/skill][skill]patient spirit[/skill][skill]dwayna's kiss[/skill][skill]healing seed[/skill][skill]heal party[/skill][skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill][skill]resurrection chant[/skill]
The biggest tip I could give would be to not watch your party window 24/7, try and watch the field and compass for proper prots and such.

First off, Monks should never have to carry res btw.
Something i like to run is:
Healing Prayers : 12+1+1
Protection Prayers 11+1
Divine Favor 5+1
[Word of Healing][Patient Spirit][Glyph of Lesser Energy][OPTIONAL][OPTIONAL][Protective Spirit][Dismiss Condition][Cure Hex]
Optional
[Aegis]
[Shield of Absorption]
[Spirit Bond]
[Guardian]
I use a staff with a HSR and a Enchant mods
a martial wep with the +5e and +30hp mods with a +45(while enchanted) and a +10vs.XX shield.
Then theres my High energy set for emergencies only.
My 40/40 set when im using WoH,DC,ect.

If you don't to change your build to much IMO take out [Shielding hands] for [holy veil] If you want a make over try removing [rebirth][signet of devotion][blessed signet][life bond] and change them for [guardian][protective spirit][zealous benediction][glyph of lesser energy] If you can get you hands on a elite monk tome, keep [signet of devotion] till you get that elite.
[Mend Ailment] is fine but you also may want to take a look at [dismiss condition] If there's a lot of conditions on you ally when using mend ailment, you can take them back up to full HP easy with out having any points in healing, dismiss condition is better for removing conditions faster but its not always needed, so it really depends on where you are for what of the 2 are better, I always use dismiss just cause i like to be very diverse cause shit happens :P
If you have any other monk Qs clk here
